OUR WORK
SELVA ETERNA NATURAL RESERVE
Every tree cut down and every species that disappears in Ecuador distances us from a possible future of harmonious coexistence with nature; conserving biodiversity means preserving the hope of life for generations to come.
In San José de Morona, one of the most biodiverse corners of world, indiscriminate hunting, deforestation, and cattle ranching threaten to erase centuries of evolutionary life. This region is home to unique species and ecosystems vital to the climatic and cultural balance of the Amazon. Every loss here is not just local; it is a blow to the heart of biodiversity and the balance of the global climate, as well as to the native communities that safeguard it.
OUR SOLUTION
OUR SOLUTION
In response to the growing threat facing the southern Ecuadorian Amazon, Selva Eterna proposes a comprehensive and sustainable solution that protects biodiversity, strengthens communities, and restores the rainforest.
Our model is based on three fundamental pillars:
Science for Conservation
We implement standardized ecological monitoring programs for key or bioindicator species such as jaguars, river dolphins, primates, and amphibians. This scientific information guides our decisions and enables us to design effective strategies to conserve wildlife and their habitats.
Territorial protection
We have local park rangers and trained technicians who monitor and protect the ecological integrity of the reserve and its surroundings. Through patrols and the implementation of technologies such as camera traps, drone flights, and georeferenced maps, we promote the reduction of illegal hunting and deforestation.
Communities and society as allies
We work alongside Shuar communities, local goverment and civil society institutions to promote sustainable alternatives, such as ecotourism, permaculture, production of organic products, agroforestry, and programs that promote quality of life without harming the environment. We integrate their ancestral knowledge into our actions, strengthening the link between culture and conservation.
